USB Stick Formatting

USB sticks must be formatted in an appropriate format for use with the Raspberry Pi. Some USB sticks already have the right format but the safest approach is to format all new/unknown USB sticks before use using the following procedure.

You will need

• Raspberry Pi Imager software. Download and follow the instructions for install at https://www.raspberrypi.org/software/.

• USB Memory Stick inserted into the computer that has the Raspberry Pi Imager software installed.

Step 1

Open the Raspberry Pi Imager software and select Erase from the Operating System menu, select the USB memory stick from the Storage menu and then click Write/Erase.
